After retiring with a secure financial future, I turned my attention to what I could do to give back by using my time, talent and passion for good causes. In 2013, I stumbled onto a small group of like-minded folks who were starting this “new thing” called a Village. Eleven years later, here I am, integrally immersed in the Villages of San Mateo County as a leader (Chair of Sequoia Village), an active volunteer (Office Volunteer Lead), and as a Social Member. I have grown to deeply appreciate what it means to aging adults to lead active lives with a little support and a lot of community. I financially support VSMC on an annual basis, but when I am gone and no longer able to make annual donations, I want to continue my support of VSMC through a legacy donation.
It’s easy to make a pledge through a trust. This has some tax advantages and can be adjusted in the future if circumstances change. With that in place, I feel satisfied knowing I’m helping to keep VSMC vibrant for the generations of seniors that will follow me.
This work is important – it helps individuals -- it brings people together by building community --and it needs to continue. “Legacy” -- what a vital word!
